WHO WE ARE
Why are we building a rainbow network of LGBTQ+-owned trade businesses & tradespeople? Because everyone (clients and contractors alike) should feel respected, safe, and welcome on the job site. High-quality work is always paramount, but so are empathy and care. So whether you’re looking to hire queer contractors, locate rainbow community as a current (or aspiring!) tradesperson, link up as an ally business (like architects, designers, realtors etc.), or just support the next generation of LGBTQ+ workers, you’ve come to the right place!
WHO WE ARE NOT
The Queer Contractors Collective is, by design, not the “Queer version of Angi.” In lieu of researching four companies (wondering who’s available, who’s actually best suited to the specifics of your project, whose service area really includes you, and whether someone’s gorgeous website actually reflects better know-how — plus managing all those communication threads), you simply describe your project once, and someone who knows the community makes a curated referral and kicks off introductions.
This approach benefits everyone for three reasons.
-
Some of our members have polished websites and larger marketing budgets, while others have spent decades building exceptional reputations almost entirely through word-of-mouth. Great craft isn’t measured by website quality, and we don’t want outstanding contractors overlooked simply because they’re less interested in marketing themselves. Likewise, our members have different specialties, changing schedules, flexible service areas, and varying interests from one project to the next — all things that a static directory just cannot capture.
-
This approach allows us to respect the privacy of Queer business owners who may not be publicly out as LGBTQ+ in every aspect of their professional lives. We believe participation in our community should never require sacrificing personal safety or professional discretion.
-
As for sussing out quality levels, our members are part of this Collective because they’re people we trust. Our baseline criteria are: exceptionally high craftsmanship, professionalism, communication (as much as possible - we all get a bit swamped during busy seasons), reliability, and genuine care & empathy for clients. These traits reflect on all of us, so each business takes it very seriously.
If you’re seeking an LGBTQ+ trade business through The Queer Contractors Collective, you’re not just choosing from a list of names, you’re benefiting from a community that knows its members well enough to make thoughtful recommendations.
In a nutshell: we’re not in the business of giving you more choices; we’re in the business of helping you make the right one.
